The Brecon Beacons is one of three National Parks in Wales and is considered by many the loveliest.

The National Park covers just over 500 square miles, with the Black Mountains in the east near Crickhowell & Abergavenny, the Beacons in the middle and the Black Mountain and Carmarthen Fans in the west.  With the Usk Valley and the Brecon and Monmouth Canal running through, it is a beautiful and peaceful area, with plenty of variety, especially for those who enjoy the countryside and outdoor activities.

Pen-y-Fan, the highest point in Southern Britain, rises to 2907ft and the walking here and on the neighbouring mountains is quite superb all year round.  Access to the Brecon Beacons is easy from most parts of the country, especially the Midlands and Southern England - London is about three hours’ drive and Birmingham two.  Once here, it is possible to drive to the Gower Peninsula or Pembrokeshire coast in less than two hours, making coastal days out a possibility too.

Quality accommodation is always highly sought after and we are pleased to offer an excellent self-catering cottage right in the heart of the National Park.

Between Crickhowell and Brecon, the Usk Valley passes through beautiful and unspoilt countryside.  About halfway between them is the thriving canalside village of Talybont on Usk, where Kiwi Cottage is to be found.  It is a delightful property, with accommodation for up to 5 people and a central location close to the village shop, cafe and pubs.

Brecon is centrally positioned in the National Park and is a very popular destination for walkers, mountain bikers and those who just enjoy being in the beautiful surrounding countryside with its panoramic views.

The cathedral town boasts two museums and recreational facilities include boating, tennis, a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool, various children's parks and two fine golf courses. The town centre is quaint with two supermarkets, shops and a wide selection of restaurants, inns and cafes. In the surrounding area there are many village inns worth a visit. Five miles from Brecon is the National Park's Mountain Centre, which showcases the natural history, geology and scenery of the area.

Kiwi Cottage provides an excellent base for discovering and enjoying the beauty of the National Park.

We hope you like it and look forward to welcoming you to this wonderful part of Wales.
